Eleftheria Rizou
PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Eleftheria Rizou is a graduate of the Russian Cultural Institute SPbSIC (Saint Petersburg) and holds a Master’s Degree in choreography. Additionally, she is a certified Fascia Therapist (Greek College of SomatoPsychopedagogy), a Fascial Fitness Trainer and a certified pilates instructor.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Eleftheria has followed courses and seminars of classical dance, ideokinisis (Franklin method), barre à terre and other techniques of somatic education in Europe and the America, where she has been employed as dancer and choreographer.
She has been working as a dance teacher since 1995. She has been the art director of the G. Christoforides Ballet School (2006-2019). Since 2010 she practices systematically tai-chi, yoga and contact improvisation.
Between the years 2000 and 2003 she was a member of the “Studio below zero”, playback theater company.
In 2001 she choreographed and danced “Frida”, an award-winning video dance.
In 2007 she founded and continues to direct the Bodytone Studio where she teaches pilates and movement techniques.
In 2020 she created “Farewell”, a video dance based on the performance “The Stareway” which was presented in Athens (May 2019). “Farewell” was included in many international festivals (in India, Russia, Spain and elsewhere) as well as in the Athens Video Dance Project. In 2022 she created "Red Thread", an ideo-kinetic performance which encapsulates the course of a woman's life in the limits of a single space. The play, which was her own production, was performed in Athens (November 2022).
Eleftheria is a founding member and member of the Board of IA.TE (Greek Association of Dance Medicine) and a member of the editorial committee of the magazine “Chorygeia”. She is also a founding member of the Greek Pilates Association. Since 2013 she is a guest teacher at the Sizuoka Conservatory of Dance and the Izonokuni Youth Ballet, Japan. In April 2021 she co-organised the 3rd International Convention for Dance Education in association with the State Institute of Culture of Saint Petersburg with which she still collaborates closely.
